My work exposes and challenges the legal and policy structures that undermine environmental protection, human rights, and national sovereignty, especially in the Global South.

With a foundation in legal precision and a commitment to public interest, I use research, advocacy, and strategic engagement to reclaim trade as a tool that serves people and the planet.

Hi, I’m Iza

  • As Research Director at Public Citizen’s Global Trade Watch, Iza specializes in the intersection of global trade, investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS), and climate policy—particularly as it relates to critical mineral supply chains. Her work centers on advancing sustainability and equity by ensuring that trade and investment frameworks uphold ethical resource governance and community-led decision-making, with a strong focus on Indigenous and Global South communities.

    Iza has been practicing global trade law since 2016. She has extensive experience representing Latin American governments in ISDS cases, advising on cross-border disputes, global supply chain compliance, and trade remedies.

  • In 2019, Iza was selected as a Salzburg Cutler Fellow for her research on supply chain transparency and corporate responsibility in international trade. Her work analyzed supply chain transparency as a tool to expose human rights abuses and forced labor.

My Research

I approach each report with the goal of transforming complex and often technical trade issues into compelling narratives that drive advocacy and policy change.

My work examines the legal architecture behind international supply chains, investment arbitration, and critical mineral policy to expose the systemic imbalances that hinder sustainable development and climate justice.
